I am a Glassblower and Designer from Haïti. I grew up in close contact with my country's culture, proud history, the people's strong will to live and to see the beauty of life. This is what inspires me in my artwork today, together with the contrasts between the Caribbean roots and the arctic region in which I live.
When I was a teenager, I would melt together my Grand-mother's used perfume bottles and my uncle's whisky bottles in order to experiment with glass as a material. However Haïti has no tradition in glassblowing and this came much later.
I came to Sweden in 1989. Here I started working to fulfill my childhood dream to become a glassblower. In 1998 it was time to start my own glass studio "Jukkasjärvi Glas Ateljé" and I took contact with Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi since I wanted to blow glass right beside this hotel made of snow and ice. This I did in a small log cabin and right beside was my igloo boutique made of snow walls, ice shelves for the crystal and ice windows. I created glass during seven years in Jukkasjärvi.
Time came to develop freedom as a craftsman further and to create the possibilities to blow glass all year round, not only during the wintertime.
I have now opened a new glass studio in the valley of Ljungdalen ("Heather Valley") in mid-western part of Sweden; integrating it in the basement level of my home in the middle of the forest.
Welcome to Ljungdalen! |
